Our Story
Sometimes, a good idea starts with something as simple as a book.
That's how Ad Orientem began. Our mom came across Sharing the Good News: A Hands-On Religion Resource by Catholic Heritage Curricula and thought starting a family newsletter would be a fun way to share our Catholic faith while keeping family and friends connected. We decided to give it a try, and before long, Ad Orientem was born!
In February 2024, we put together our very first issue and sent it to a small group of family and friends. At the time, we had no idea how much the project would grow, but we were excited to get started.
The name Ad Orientem comes from Latin, meaning “to the east." In the Catholic tradition, facing east symbolizes turning toward Christ and awaiting His coming. We thought it was a fitting name for a newsletter centered on sharing our faith and keeping our eyes fixed on Him.
As time went on, putting together the newsletter became a regular part of our family life. We began sending out a new issue every two to three months, filling the pages with family news, reflections, and other things we hoped our readers would enjoy. The encouragement we received from family and friends made the work all the more rewarding and inspired us to keep going.
Eventually, we decided it was time to take Ad Orientem beyond our original circle of readers. Around January 2026, we launched this website so that more people could read our newsletter and enjoy the other things we had to share.
What started with a book and an idea has grown into a project we're happy to share with others. Through our newsletter and website, we hope to spread the light of Christ, encourage fellow Catholics, and share a little bit of our family's life along the way.
Thanks for stopping by! We're glad you're here, and we hope you enjoy exploring Ad Orientem!
